It is important in a free society that everyone has a voice in the affairs of the government. Colt understands that good governance does not occur in a vacuum. It is through civil dialogue and discourse we learn from one another and while Colt stands resolute in defense of his viewpoints he is committed to having a dialogue with those with opposing views if elected.
With regards to assisted suicide as a member of Congress, I will work to ensure the rights of our citizens facing terminal illness have the opportunity to end their life on their terms without needless suffering, while protecting them from government or others pushing them to make such a decision.
As a member of congress on abortion, I will work to ensure that all Americans born and those yet to be able to enjoy the basic freedoms guaranteed to us among them life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In other words, I am strongly pro-life
The second amendment of the United States Constitution states " a well-regulated militia being necessary to a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed". While for many this statement is murky, for me the rights of the people, the citizen to keep, carry, and use arms for any lawful purpose is absolute.
Firearms (or any "weapon") for that matter is a tool, in the right hands they can be used to save and defend lives, put food on the table, and as a time-honored pass time. In the wrong hands they can do great evil. No matter what you do or law you write we cannot legislate our way out of people with ill intents.
I am a proud member of the Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO), United States Concealed Carry Association (USCCA) and the National Rifle Association (NRA).
As a member of Congress, I will work to ensure the right to keep and bear arms will not be infringed on my watch.
We cannot overlook the impact of crime in our society. However there are many crimes on the books currently which instead of prison could be dealt with in a different way in which would aide in reformation of the offender, reduce the population of the prisons, and save tax dollars or conversely legalize and regulate what is now criminal. Also on a federal level there is no opportunity within the law to receive an expungement of a federal arrest, and/or convictions, no matter how minor the offense may be. We need to change that immediately as expungements of convictions for those deserving on the state level are leading to new beginnings for those who made past mistakes. Additionally upon release from prison, offenders have a difficult time getting jobs and building up to a successful reintegration to society which leads to recidivism. Lastly offenders who have finished their sentencing, and parole should at some point be afforded all of their constitutional rights back that they previously lost. I will work to craft legislation that both protects our citizens while ensuring that offenders who have reformed their ways are given a fighting chance to once again become a positive part of society and restore their rights.(Read More)
Our children are indeed the future. As a parent I look forward to my child growing up to do whatever he or she desires to do with their lives, bettering their circumstances and making positive contributions to our society. A solid education is the key to success for our children. Common core has damaged our children's educational experience assuming they are not capable of grasping the same concepts of classic education that many of us have enjoyed. Additionally I believe in teaching truth and facts, no matter where they lead. Lessons of basic civics are missing in our classrooms. Many students cannot cite their basic civil rights enshrined in our founding documents, altered histories are being taught to fit a political agenda, and more emphasis is being placed on children getting pronouns of their classmates correct than is placed on teaching basic coursework If elected I will support legislation to ensure all students across our nation are taught a classical education. Giving parents a voice in their children's education and a choice in school via voucher programs. Preparing our students for a brighter future, increasing vocational educational opportunities, eliminating common core, and standing up to the teacher's unions who care more about union dues than our kids.(Read More)
America has been fighting the "war on drugs" since Richard Nixon. And what has it gotten us? Dead citizens, dead cops, untold debt, mass incarceration, and more to the negative. Nothing positive has come of this "war". Yet we continue to try to arrest and ban our way out of a problem and that's what we've been doing since the beginning.
So, is not one of the definitions of insanity doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results?
It's high time, (pun intended) to legalize marijuana, expunge the criminal records of all who were convicted retroactively, drop the bottom out of the black market (reducing criminal activity and cutting funds to cartels), create business opportunities, and revel in the new tax base legalization would create.
